Thisis an sale for a Matching Pair (2) of Authentic Antique Victorian Ceramic Carpet Balls in Pristine Original Condition. They are each marked \"Made in Scotland\", and, carpet balls so marked are quite rare, especially in this condition. They are brown in color and the pattern is called \"Plaid\" for evident reasons. This is a classic line-printed pattern. I would date them somewhere between 1860 and 1880. Carpet balls measure 3.11\" and 3.17\" in diameter, and, weigh 519 grams and 532 grams, respectively. For reference purposes, I refer you to Paul Baumann\'s 4th Edition Collecting Antique Marbles ( Soft Cover ) which contains a 54 Page Section devoted to Antique Carpet Balls and Co-Authored by Roger Matile in 2004. The \"Plaid\" Pattern you will find on page 183, and, the \"Made in Scotland\" stamp on a Plaid Pattern Ball, you will also find on page 183. I have been buying and selling antique carpet balls for almost 20 years and have only found 2 carpet balls with the Made in Scotland stamp. Recently, I acquired a collection of antique carpet balls that included 3 matching pairs, total 6, of these rare carpet balls, all in nice condition.
