LARGE ANTIQUE BLOCK PRINTED WOOLEN GAUZE SHAWL 1850\'s, SOTHEBY\'S SALECASTLE HOWARD COLLECTION
A wool antique block printed paisley shawl dating to the 19th Century, with extravagant design elements printed in vegetable dyes. This elegant 1850\'s paisley shawl still breathes with vibrance of old colours. Beautiful delicate colouring of reds, greens and blue on a cream ground.
MEASUREMENT: This paisley shawl measures 168cm x 360cm
CONDITION: Shawl is in fair condition, unwashed, with some fading, and no repairs. When held up to the light of a window I do see a few small holes, there is also a few small marks which could be removed by cleaning (please see photos). This shawl was stored folded unused for decades. The white fringes are on two ends with none missing. Its in lovely condition for its age and the small damage doesn\'t effect the look of this stunning antique textile.
This piece has great provenance being bought in the Sotheby\'s England, Castle Howard Sale. It was purchased for £525.00 in 2003. It is worthy of collecting and a great display piece or could be use as a bed hanging or stylish interior am selling a large number of textiles and vintage clothes from my mothers archive. She was a well know interior designer in London in the 1980\'s and 90\'s. She travelled the world picking up interesting textiles, antique furniture and rare jewellery. I am going to list many items in the next few months.I am happy to answer any questions about this item.
