Offering this life size, hand painted, vintage late 1800s toearly 1900s paper mache skeleton bust, which was made in Germany - as GERMANY is faintly stamped on thebottom (see last picture). It measures approximately 16” tall and 12” wide. It is very dimensionaland spooky. The paint has crackled and turned sort of grayish but it very cool.There are some holes in the face that look like they served a function, but Ihave no idea what. There is also a brown patch that runs down the front centerribcage that looks like very old glue residue. There are no breaks, but someoneapparently did a repair along the back neck area up to the base of the skull,as it is a bit smoother and the paint doesn’t quite match. I was going to painta better matching and textured patina but never got around to it because Inever saw it (it’s in the back). I have seen similar skeleton pieces like thisused in the old window coffins as displays and other fraternal organizations. Ithas an early Halloween look to it as well, as Germany would be putting outmacabre Halloween items like this years later. This is a very spooky and veryearly piece. The patina makes it all the more so. I deal for a haunted prop. Itis quite light and easy to move around.
