Up for sale we have this antique paper mache snuff box with a hand painted and engraved view of \"Steamboat Wharf Whitehall Street New York\". This is a very detailed little box that shows Whitehall Street with The Battery - Castle Clinton in the background. The Flag above the \"Castle Gardens Fort\" depicts an American Eagle. It does have some chipping to edges, which is fairly common with these. The painted engraving is in nice condition with normal crackling. It measures 3 1/2\" in diameter and dates circa 1825. Over the years, I have had many historical snuff boxes but this is the first time I have come upon this one. Back in the 1960\'s, if you received a letter from the government telling you to report to Whitehall Street, it meant you were drafted.
