Antique Persian/Islamic Qajar Copper Bucket with Inscriptions-Early 19th Century:
$83.57

This beautiful, hand-engraved solid copper waterbucket dates back to the early 1800\'s, and is adorned with hand-chased designs and inscriptions in Farsi. Theupper portion of the vessel neck of the bowl is divided into 6 decorative panels, each one containing a small part of asonnet in praising the water bucket:

یا رب این سطل‌ دلکش را / که بود رشک جام جم به صفا / میبرندش ز شوق دست به دست

The bucket ismarked, as was customary with many metal objects at the time, with the names of two owners, inside the bucket close to the rim. The first inscription, written in a style similar to the engravings on the outside of the bucket, gives the name of the first owner:\"صاحبه حفصه خانم\" which means\" its owner: Hafsa Khanum\" (a woman\'s name). The second ownership mark is written in a veryelegant, well-excuted style of calligraphy, and indicates the name of a later owner, as well as a date, and reads: \"صاحبه خورشيد خانم ١٢٧١\", meaning \"its owner: Khorshid Khanum, 1271\". The name of the later owner is also a woman; the date \'1271\' is on the Islamic calendar, which equates to 1854 on the Gregorian calendar. The sturdy, hand-decorated handle is attached with large rings and decorative triangular brackets to the body of the vessel. The bucket is in very good condition, as can be seen in the pictures.International buyers are more than welcome to place their offers for this item. Shipping can be arranged accordingly.
