This is an antique pewterChinese pitcher tankard which measures 9 1/2\" tall. The base diameter is 3 3/4\". The top diameter is 3 1/2\"...5 1/8\" if you measure across the spout. The handle is 4 3/4\" long. The bottom is marked in Asian characters and also says, \" TAKWO PEWTER SWATOW\". This tankard weights 2 lbs, 3 oz. and featuresthe hand engraved image of two dragons with their heads facing up,face to face with just the tips of their tongues about to touch. The dragon bodiesare dramatically arching around the sides of the pitcher. Each dragon has 4 legs.There are 5 claws on each leg which may indicate a high rankingprevious owner. The lid on this handsome pitcher has 2 hinges. Notice that the spout has a hinge lid of it\'s own. There is a solid ball knob on the spout lid. Theentire lid is engraved with the image of a deer creaturewith antlers and a flying phoenix bird. There is a bloosuming tree in the scene. Please note there is a fine hairline crack near the hinge. Does noteffect the sturdiness of the lid closing. The lid is well made having an inner rim to keep the lid from sliding and becoming loose. This is a well crafted itemthat has aged well. I have photographed it from many angles for your examination. There are some small dings and light scratches as would be expected with an item of this age (probably mid to late 1800\'s and into 1920\'s). It was produced in the importantpewter making region of China in Swatow. I do not know about the maker, \"Takwo\". The engravingis first rate. Wouldmake a good water pitcher...dragon\'s like water.
