An antique Quart pewter tankard with a cut to clear amber glass bottom. Engraved ~ Mile Race Athletic Games Rugby Oct. 3rd 1859.The recipients name is quite difficult to decipher, maybeH.D. Braban?.

Possibly of Rugby interest, as I guess the Rugby refers to Rugby School, thought of as the birthplace of the game of rugby.

Heightapprox. 6\", base diameter approx. 5\". No makers marks or verification numbers.

CONDITION~Structurally sound and watertight, the tankard is in good antique condition with a good deal of wear, marks and minor dings. The glass bottom has some nibbles but no nasty chips or cracks. Pleasetake a good look at thephotographs, theseform an important part of the description.
