Offered for your consideration is an original turn-of-the-century Pharaoh’s Horses monochrome print in a marvelous period frame. The original painting of this classic work by British painter John Frederick Herring Sr. (1795–1865) was made in 1848. This gorgeous Victorian work of art is truly a unique piece of Americana history.
The outside of this gorgeous dark wood (walnut or oak) round framemeasures 22 inches in diameter. The inside diameter of the primitive frame is 14¼inches in diameter and is encircledwith a narrow ribbon of gesso. The frame itself is 3/16\" deep with a totalof ¾\" deep with the molding on the back to hold the print. The glass is oldwith subtle swirls and depressions and appears original but I\'ll let the newowner be the judge. Displays beautifully.
All original 100+ year print, frame and backing are in excellent conditionwith no stains, rips, restorations, etc. The simple wood frame has lovely old patina and drawsattention to the three white Arabian horses. The two holes on the back of theframe most likely had eye screws for hanging wire. I added the saw tooth picturehanger years ago. I didn\'t remove the backing to inspect the print.
This antique framed printhas been in my family for over a century but the time has come for us todownsize. We have had it ondisplay in our home for nearly years but the time has come for us to downsize.I hope the new owner will enjoy and cherish this incredible Pharaoh’s Chariot Horses framed print asmuch as we have.
