Beautiful vintage antique silver plated pen holder with the base in the shape of the Australian continent on four ball feet and two boomerangs angling inward that would hold a small inkwell, which unfortunately is missing from the piece.
The boomerangs are screwed on and fully removable for easy cleaning etc.
Item is in superb condition.
Has phoenix logo stamped on the base.*I have two other items listed by the same maker*The Phoenix Manufacturing Company opened in Melbourne in 1916, making electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) products that filled the void created by import restrictions that followed the outbreak of war. In the 1920s, the company grew extensively, relocated to larger premises, and competed successfully with British electroplating manufacturers. At this time, it was reportedly the largest manufacturing silverware factory in the Southern Hemisphere.Launched in 1932, its Imperial range of table wares responded to the \'Georgian Silverware\' series that Australian competitor, Stokes and Sons, had recently introduced. The range included earlier, favoured items as well as new and popular Art Deco wares. Made from 18% nickel silver, Imperial items were of a remarkably high quality, while the designs, machinery and dies were all Australian. These features helped Phoenix overcome the prejudices of local consumers who had previously preferred imported goods.
