Antique Poissarde Earrings 18k Gold Paste French Provincial Ear Hoops (#6088):

Antique Victorian earrings. 18k yellow gold, pink and green paste. Made in France, 19th century.

Measurements: a little over 1 inch (26mm) in length, not including the wires. Combined weight is 1.90 grams.

Classic poissarde French provincial earrings. These lightweight and easy to wear earrings have wires that go from the back of the lobe to the front, as is typical of Victorian earrings. The S-curve wires that support the earrings gave the name to the earrings, originally worn by French fish sellers (poissarde). The fronts are a leaf shape of gold repousse scrolling design with a flower in its center. The middle of the flower is a large pink paste set in gold filigree surrounded by green paste \'petals\' each in its own gold filigree collette setting. The contrast between the bright colors is very appealing and attractive. Little rings on top of the wires are typical of these earrings and often used to thread ribbons or other jewelry. Very well made and highly wearable today. Guarranteed to draw compliments.

Marks: French eagle head mark for 18k gold. Makers mark in a lozenge. Bigorne mark guarranteed against forgeries.
