This matched set of c.1820\'s-1830\'s cutlery were made by famous Sheffield cutler C. Congreve who is documented to have made the earliest known American Bowie knives during the 1830\'s.

The knife measures 8 1/2\" and the 2-tined fork are more typical of the style cutlery used during the 1790\'s (possibly Congreve bought some old surplus then put his touchmark on the knife?). The handles are stag horn and the set are in excellent condition with no pitting on iron and minor age cracks to stag handles.

To see documentation related to this early Bowie knife maker see pg.66 in GOINS\' ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CUTLERY MARKINGS.

These would look great in a Bowie knife collection or a pre Civil War militaria display.
