Extremely rare 4/4 violin by German maker. My late father thought the violin was possibly Tyrolean because of it\'s shape, but the case is made in Berlin as the label states. nevertheless, he purchased it from a renowned musical instrument teacher and collector named Buckmaster in Box Hill Victoria Australia in the early 1990\'s. He swapped three really good violins to get it, one of which he had played under Bertha Jorgenson in the Victorian State Orchestrain the early 1960\'s when he was briefly a member. His notes say it is the most lively violin he ever owned and has a vibrant yet sweet sound. This fiddle needs to go to a person who can appreciate it and play it as it should be played. It has NO defects or crack or bends that one can possibly find, and it did have a label inside of which a partial remnant remains. This reads Franfesco Rugetti dett il per Crrmona or similar. The case has a logo from Berlin Germany as per pix. so I assume that the violin MAY be a nineteenth century reproduction or copy of a famous maker - perhaps an original? It seems in too good a condition to be as old as an Italian master violin, so unless totally rebuilt, I think it is a later copy of a very rare fiddle. However it is an antique itself and beautifully made. The notes also say that he only knew of one other like it, which was on display in London at the Victoria & Albert Museum.I have priced it at what I think is fair, and will be happy to hear from collectors and players alike with any further information. The head is carved, -his notes say the bust of Mendelssohn - and the pegs and bridge are inlaid. The bows are still intact and are his own selection to play the violin, also antique.
