Beautiful and Haunting Royal Doulton English Porcelain Winter Scene Vase - Between 1902-1912
Heavily Cloaked Young Woman in a Winter Landscape.Mint Condition - One Ancient Repair on Rim (had to put post it next to it because it is hard to see.)
Very evocative and beautiful white and blue handpainted scene featuring a young woman trying to make her way in a snowstorm. This is an unusual and rare subject for a decorative vase from that period. The style is a mix of romantic and Art Nouveau. The English winter landscape subtly changes to a more ethereal, almost asian scene as you move across the body of the vase. Gold gilds melts down the inside of the rim and there is some subtle gilding beside the left of the woman in the field representing earth perhaps. MARK: Red 1902-1923 Royal Doulton Burslem - Lion, Crown, Royal Doulton, a celtic-like symbol of 4 intersecting crests, and ENGLAND.
PROVENANCE: Eastern Ontario April 2016 estate sale.
CONDITION (photos taken inside): MINT. No chips, crackle, pin holes or cracks. But there is a small, ancient repair to the rim.
DIMENSIONS: 5.75 inches tall, base diameter 1.9\", vase diameter at its widest 3 1/8\", mouth of vase 1 7/8\", weighs 8 oz.
