I believe these to be the earliest sunglasses I\'ve seen. They were made to clip over the lenses of a pair of round, rimless or thinly rimmed specs. The two perfectly round lenses are dark grey, with a very slight brown tinge. They\'re held together with a thin, curved piece of brass that is fitted into a small cap on the top of each lens. The top edge of the metal is hammared, or chased, for texture and decorative value. It doesnt seem to be marked. The lenses are rimmed with the black material called gutta percha, or with what could possibly be hard dark leather. There are four small bent clips on the back, two on the outer edge of each lenses. One of these has the tip broken away. The total width across each lens is 2 and 11/16 of an inch, just under 2-3/4\". The lenses are convex, curving slightly out in the centers, away from the eye. The lenses are of ground glass. No cracks or chips. I don\'t see any scratches, though there might be one visible if they were worn. It\'s unlikely something this old could be unscratched, but I think they are. The width as they sit is 3-5/8\". Because of the flexibility of the brass bridge and the way it\'s mounted, they have a good bit of spring in them, and should easily stretch in or out to fit frames of different sizes, within reason.
