Antique Burslem England Royal Doulton Large Hand Painted Porcelain Decanter
~ c. 1886-1891 ~

This is a RARE find. An antique 19th century hand painted compote with extensive gilt around the rim and base made by the Doulton Burslem factory in England. This piece is circa 1886-1891 (mark on base…see photo description of mark). The compote has a branch of lovely mauve and pink flowers and a chocolate brown rim covered with ornate gold trim (about 1 ½” wide). The edge of the top of the compote is extensively scalloped. The base is also chocolate brown with elaborate gold trim work. The top of the compote measures 9 ½” in diameter. The base of the compote is 3 ½” in diameter. The compote stands 2 ¾” tall. There is some minor wear on the gold but not substantial considering the age. The only flaws that I can see are on the underside where the plate was attached to the base there are two hairline cracks (shown in two photos). It looks like this may have occurred when the plate was attached to the base but I’m not sure. The small one is about 3/8” long and the longer one is about 1 ¾” long. This is a gorgeous compote and is in very good condition considering it’s over 120 years old!
