“JamesHadley, whom many regard as the finest ceramic modeller of the nineteenthcentury, had been the chief modeller of the factory from the early days of RoyalWorcester, being responsible for the greater majority of figures and vases fromthe mid 1860s…The very popular hand vases…have a female hand that is said to bemodelled on the hand of his wife.” (Henry Sandon, Royal Worcester Porcelain,pp. 19 & 67). The present piece with variant decoration is shown in colorplate IV.

Thehand is clear glazed white holding a vase painted coral pink with giltguilloche border & gilt line & dot trim. The bracelet is painted turquoise & gilt.

Impresseddiamond registration mark headed N for 1864. Green crown & circle mark ofRoyal Worcester with 65 below for 1865.
