Russian Enameled Sugar Tongs

*** A Rare and Beautiful Piece! ***

This sale is for a beautiful pair of Russian silver enameled sugar tongs. They measure approximately 4 5/8\" long and 13/16\" wide and they weigh 45 grams on our postal scale. The enamel work is absolutely stunning, with deep purple, white, bright blue, and turquoise embellishments all over. At the top of the handle, there is a deep red gemstone cabochon.

The side of the tongs is hallmarked with a signature \"GK\". We believe this is a mark of Gustav Klingert, an artist who worked extensively with Faberge. It bears the mark \"B.N. / 1884\", the Moscow assay mark for Vasily Aleksandrovich Petrov. The mark \"84\" for 840 silver content. And, finally, the Moscow city mark of St. George Slaying the Dragon hallmark which appears to date this piece to around 1873.
