Size Range: large 9.2 grams - one inch long plus bail

Composition: sterling silver gilt (vermeil)

Design: This unusual egg looks like it is paying tribute tot he waves on the ocean. It has red crystal stones instead of clear, a rare occurrence. The brown and blue cloisonne enamel is also an unusual but beautiful color combination. The reticulated (see-thru) pierced design is classic, as are the swirls in the complex design. It has a nice weight for its size, really lovely. Note: Six tiny vermeil boxes on the ends of the rows do not have stones, but that is part of the design. Nothing on this egg is missing.

About the Eggs: This is part of a large collection of antique, vintage and almost-new egg pendants and related jewelry items, most of them made from gilded sterling silver, but some made from solid 14kgold, gilded porcelain, crystal, genuine gemstones, and art glass. Most listed in my store will beof the Russian Faberge style, but there will also be some beautiful examples from Italyand other egg-laying nations. The last photo shows you a sampling of thecollection that is being sold, one egg at a time.

Many of the finest egg pendants are not hallmarked. I haveyears of experience with fine jewelry and guarantee every statement maderegarding precious metal. If an egg I sell you is not made of the statedmaterials, you are entitled to a full refund including yourshipping, upon return. I have an all-sales-final policy to keep my prices low, but I standbehind the accuracy of my descriptions.

The condition on all of the eggs is excellent pre-owned,unless otherwise stated. That means there is no damage. The enamel is intact, thebale is present, and all crystals and gems are present. Each pendant comes witha new square or rectangular gift box.

Some eggs may have some natural toning (darkening of thesilver over time) or minor wear (contact marks) from use around the bale. Soplease study the photos to be sure the condition is to your liking.

Some of these hand-made pendants are rare types, shaped likeother round objects like pumpkin, acorn, eggplant, and crown; and a few are statementpieces, very large and magnificent.

These amazing little silver masterpieces are so much fun tocollect. You can learn more about them by reading my 5 page Egg Pendant BuyingGuide:

Here is an excerpt from the Buying Guide:

“How is Value Determined?
With Russian silver gilt egg pendants, value is determined by a combination offactors including size, condition, age, design, gems (if any), precious metalcontent, and most of all, craftsmanship. Skill and craftsmanship are key. Sizeis the most overlooked factor but is critical to value. Typically, the largerthe egg pendant or locket, the more valuable because of the extra labor andmaterials needed.
Four major sizes include:

  • Petite: an egg pendant that is less than 3/4 inch (18mm) in length, excluding bale.
  • Medium: An egg or locket that is 3/4th inch (18mm) to 1 inch (25mm) long, excluding bale.
  • Large: an egg or locket that is 1 to 1 1/4 inches (31mm) in length or width, excluding bale.
  • Extra Large: an egg or locket that is over 1 1/4 inches (31mm) in length or width, excluding bale.” End of excerpt.

About the Faberge Name

After the Russian revolution in the early part of the 20thcentury, many Fabergé family members left Russia and some licensed or sold theFaberge name to various companies. For example, the Franklin Mint inPennsylvania had a line of products called the “Franklin Mint House of Faberge”while working with a Faberge descendant. All of this has led to some confusion. The fact is that one of the few rare original Faberge eggs made for the czar and his family is worth millions ofdollars. Some sterling silver vermeil Russian egg pendants are still made inthe Faberge style and with Faberge techniques but only a few are made underlicense from a Faberge descendant.

When you see the word Faberge in one of my saledescriptions, think “Faberge Style” unless the item is specifically labeled asbeing from a licensed Faberge company such as the “Franklin Mint House of Faberge”line.
