Antique Russian Imperial 84 Sterling Silver Candlesticks Shabbat Judaica Jewish:

Up for sale is an antique pair of Russian Imperial 84 silver candlesticks specifically used for the observance of Shabbat, the Jewish holy day of rest. Candlesticks are heavily ornamented with architectural motifs and large clusters of grapes with leaves and vine tendrils. They measure approximately 13 1/2 inches tall with a top diameter of 2 1/2 inches and a base width of 6 inches. They weigh 1 lb 10 oz and 1 lb 11 oz, or 3 lbs 6 oz total. Pieces are marked, as seen in the photographs, ’84’ and ’84 Kiev ПT’ along the outside edge of the bases. The ’84\' is the fineness mark and translates to .875 silver. The abbreviated Cyrillic letters of ’ПT’ means ПPИBO3HЬIX TOBAPOB, which translates to imported goods, and was used between 1882-1898. The town hallmark looks like a figure holding a sword which closely resembles the Kiev mark. Each candlestick is also hallmarked ‘X’ along one foot. Pieces probably date to the 1880s based on a similar pair of candlesticks I encountered in my research. They were of the same design with clearer hallmarks and made by Josef Sosnkowski of Warsaw. Candlesticks are in great condition for age and are almost 130 years old. They do show some wear: minor scratches and scuffs, tiny dings and dents, wax residue in the sockets, and a very unnoticeable tiny crack in the fold of one leaf along the base.
