Black bear sleigh rug from the good old days. Very unusual. Colorful wool mohair backing has flower and hound motif, and is pretty much toast. The close ups are indicative of condition throughout. The hide has acouple of places where thestitching has come undone, and a small areawhere it looks like someone tried to trim the hair closer withelectric shears, for whatever reason. With this said the rug is a rare piece, never seen anything like it on or antiquing. So I am basing itsvalue on this and its age. Would make a fine wall hanging, or, with a little TLC and a new backing, a very warm and cozy user blanket.
Fur/hair is a beautiful black withred-ish roots throughout, but underfur has some sort of attached mystery soft burr-like stuff attached to it in various places (pic #10). When I first bought the blanket I spent some time cleaning some of this out but there are stillsome areas where it is noticeable. Not sure whether they were on the animal when it was alive or after. Approximate dimensions are: 56\"x 62\"
