Antique Small Metal Russian Icon!
The easel back makes this wonderful Icon appear to be a lot \"newer\" that it actually is! Close inspection confirms that the easel back was added as a replacement sometime much later in its life! I suspect that the original backing was a fabric covered piece typical of the late 1800\'s to early 1900\'s.

This Icon was a gift to a gentleman that was a professor of languages at a New York University from one of his Russian students. Reportedly, the Icon was a family piece and he and his family wanted the professor to have it in appreciation of his help to the student and in recognition of the professor\'s Russian roots.

The Icon is approximately 2 7/8\" x 4 3/4\". It is ornately decorated. There is an inscription across the top which I am unable to translate. Please let me know if you can help in its translation.
