DESCRIPTION:

ABeautiful and rare AntiqueStandard Silver Oil Lamp/Cigar lighter

marking on side of base is : 900 D....sterling before 1906 in Europe could be with this marking...orit is coin silver

900 silver is the hallmark that was used on silver mostly before the 19th century mostly in Europe. It has also been denoted for use as coin or standard silver. 900 silver is at least 90% pure silver and was used for coins and fine jewelry. These hallmarks were not used in the US because laws requiring such hallmarks were not mandated until 1906. Many people use them to identify the age of vintage and antique jewelry.

An unusual piece , novelty and collectible ....these were used when you had brandy and cigars and they were to light the cigars
