Antique Sterling Vinaigrette Birmingham 1842

Here’s a beautiful old vinaigrette fully hallmarked from Birmingham England dated 1842. This pretty box measures about 25mm across (not including the bale) and weighs 7.2 grams. There’s an H engraved on the front. The hallmarks from the top match the hallmarks on the inside bottom of the box. Condition: lovely, some scuffs and bumps—to be expected with a piece of this age. The clasp does keep this closed. From online: Vinaigrettes, popular from the late 18th century through the mid-19th century, were small containers used for holding various aromatic substances, usually dissolved in vinegar. A tiny piece of sponge, soaked in the liquid, was contained beneath a grill or perforated cover. Please look closely at the photos and ask questions. The pictures are part of the description. We try very hard to tell you everything, but may miss something. I\'m selling another vinaigrette as well. Might be great for using with your favorite essential oils! I\'m selling off a lot of my different collections, so check back often!
