Antique Sterling Vinaigrette Birmingham 1823
Here’s a beautiful old vinaigrette fully hallmarked from Birmingham England dated 1823. This pretty box measures 30mm long (not including the bale) and weighs11.1 grams . There is a small spot on the front to engrave initials. The hallmarks from the top match the hallmarks on the inside bottom of the box. Condition: lovely, some scuffs—to be expected with a piece of this age. The clasp does NOT keep this vinaigrette closed, so ask your jeweler to tighten this. From online: Vinaigrettes, popular from the late 18th century through the mid-19th century, were small containers used for holding various aromatic substances, usually dissolved in vinegar. A tiny piece of sponge, soaked in the liquid, was contained beneath a grill or perforated cover. Please look closely at the photos and ask questions. The pictures are part of the description. We try very hard to tell you everything, but may miss something. I\'m selling off a lot of my different collections, so check back often!
