Vintage bureaus like this one can be an attractive and useful addition to any home. It is like having a small, fold-away desk with a chest of drawers below. This particular piece was made in England around 1960 and is still in excellent condition today.

Mahogany Bureau

The wood used is a brilliant flame mahogany that has been accented with mahogany cross banding on the fall of the bureau. Flame mahogany has a wispy grain and is extremely attractive as you can see. Inside the top is a desk section that measures 19.5″ wide and 23″ deep. The desk is 27.5″ from the floor. There is a nice black leather insert on the fall that is great for writing if you need to take quick notes. Inside are some cubbies and a small drawer for storage. This little desk is great for a laptop. It is supported by two pull out slides and is strong enough to hold substantial weight. The fall also locks and a key is included.
The chest section below actually has a serpentine front. This is unusual for a bureau making this one quite unique. The four drawers provide ample storage. Each drawer is adorned with two brass ring pulls. They are also constructed with dovetailed joints, making them very strong.

Condition

This vintage bureau is in excellent condition. It has survived the years unscathed. The lock functions easily. All of the drawers slide in and out with minimal effort. The feet are strong and sturdy. This vintage bureau would make a welcome addition to any home or office.

The black leather is clean and adorned with gold tooling.

This image really shows the flame mahogany on the drawer fronts well. Such an attractive wood!

These brass ring pulls go well with the mahogany and are a good size for the piece.

The drawers are dovetailed, a sign that the maker used proper construction techniques.

The bracket feet are strong and in great shape.

The top is also cross banded in mahogany.

Both sides are clean and well finished.
