The form or inside of the basket-box is made of hand woven lontar palm on which all the tiny beads (glass or ceramic) have been sewn with threads into a spider web of tight designs, plus there is a border of nassa shells & beaded fringes adorn the bottom of this precious box which took months to complete.This collectable is used exclusively during weddings, as a gift giving ceremonial tradition: it is given to the bride so she can store valuables, trinkets and jewelry within, during her married life. This kind of gift giving takes place among prominent families: Such valuables took more than 5 months to create, since they are entirely handcrafted & hand beaded: tiny bead by tiny bead (2mm each at best) is placed to create a beautiful mosaic pattern.Hard to find item, as they are not made often today due to westernization and eroding traditions, like everywhere in the world today.
