Very old Long case, or grandfather clock made in England the Thomas Pearce of Chard. The painted iron dial is signed to that effect. I believe this clock is a 30-hour clock. It has a count-wheel heavy brass movement which strikes the hours on a cast-iron bell. The movement is driven by one weight on an endless chain drive. The clock is conveniently sized to fit virtually all American homes. The case is quarter-sawn oak with some cross banding. a few pieces of the cross banding are missing on the base. The hood is a break arch swan\'s neck style with brass rosettes and what looks like an original eagle. The iron dial is painted and is in great shape. It has a calendar wheel below the hand shaft, but the numbers are faded. The movement is mounted on a very old seatboard which is not attached to either the movement or the case, making it very easy to adjust to the hood. As you can see from the picture of the rear of the clock, the hood is missing the two baffles which would keep the dust out of the movement area. The clock ticks over enthusiastically when the weight is hung on the pulley. The pendulum is the usual brass faced lead bob with a wire and a suspension spring at the other end. I can\'t ship this clock, and is for pickup only. If you don\'t live near midlands South Carolina, there are blanket-wrap carriers who would be happy to bring the clock to you at reasonable cost.
