Antique \"Temperantia\" Salver Reproduction Gold Electroplate over Copper:
$199.95

\"Temperantia\" Salver electrotype reproduction of an original 16th century French Salver by Briot. This piece is gold electroplate over copper and measures 17 1/2\" in diameter, 18\" including the metal case around it\'s perimeter. It is embossed with medallions containing allegorical personages representing the 4 elements, and then a band representing the liberal arts/sciences. Temperantia is seated on the raised medallion in the center. This piece has had most of the gold plating polished off and the ringaround themiddle has oxidized causing a beautiful verdigris that\'s turquoise. The back case has 6 screws around the perimeter and one in the center. 4 of the nuts are missing. I took off the back and included a photo. To the best of my knowledge there are no makers marks on this piece, but it was probably made in the 1860\'s. That is when England made electrotypes of it for use in museums (Victoria and Albert) and as teaching aids. If anyone can enlighten me with more information about this piece, it would be greatly appreciated. It\'s an amazing piece of art and weighs approx. 11 1/2 lbs. And as you probably know, a reduced size, silver replica is still used as the Women\'s Wimbledon Trophy. Please look at all of the photos carefully and email with any questions before offerding. Thanks!
