NICE ANTIQUE TERRY CLOCK CO., PITTSFIELD MASS. MYRTLE ALARM SHELF CLOCK!

Nice estate collection clock...the Myrtle model...a 8 day parlor or mantel clock manufactured by Terry Clock Co. of Pittsfield, Mass. Terry had a history of financial difficulties and from 1831 to 1880 went through management by various family members and financial interests. After bankruptcy in the early 1880\'s the company was purchased by investors in Pittsfield Massachusetts. Three of the Terry brothers remained with the company and the Terry Clock Company name was retained until 1888, when it was taken over by creditors and the name changed to Russell & Jones Clock Company. This helps us date this clock circa 1880 - 1888. Our clock carries an interior paper label which has darkened through the years. There is some loss and fray of the original paper...still readable. The case is in very good condition with expected age and usage wear...minor scuffing here and there. No other issues found save for age and storage dust and dander. Case door opens and closes well on good hinges...stays closed well. Original glass tablet is in place with ornate reverse gilt images. Back side of the case exhibits a plastic cover over the original label at the bottom...this protective cover is attached with tacks. There also is an aftermarket wire wall hanger attached to the top of the case...we did not attempt to use it but it appears to be in good order. Caution should be used when testing this for use, as this clock is heavy for it\'s size. Inside, we have the original Pat. 1879 brass dial pan with paper dial...age yellowing, crazing and some stain is noted indicative of it\'s age...still carries the original numbers and hands...attachment has been slightly modified through the years. The 8 day movement carries the Terry name...the alarm assembly key is in place. After many years in storage with the estate holders collection, when wound, the clock started right up and continued to run...gong strike at the hour and half hour is in working order. As with all of our estate timepieces and clocks, we highly recommend a professional cleaning with final adjustments after shipment to you for proper working accuracy. A bit of expected age mustiness is noted. Nice clock for display in your collection or decor. Measures in at about 18\" tall at the center peak. Key is included.
