Tiffany holloware (a receptacle or container) and a few flatware marks include two numbers, the pattern number and the order number. The pattern number refers to the original drawing or pattern. These are roughly in consecutive order. The order number is an assigned number for a particular order. The first number (4706) is the pattern number. The capital M indicates that it was made during the directorship of Edward C. Moore at Tiffany & Co. The second number (2899) is the order number used \"in house\" by Tiffany to track production. The pitcher holds 5 pints liquid. The date of the Tiffany & Co. pitcher is C. 1877-1878. The sterling silver pitcher is Aesthetic in design; the handle has 2 bands of fluting at the top and the bottom. The fluting is replicated in a larger design at the bottom of the pitcher. The shape of the pitcher is bulbous; there are 2 rims on the upper part of the pitcher and 1 rim on the lower part of the pitcher. The condition is fair, the dents are obvious, there is tarnish especially on the inside, and the bottom of the pitcher has some loss of silver. All of the above can be remedied by a good silversmith. Because the pitcher is Tiffany, it would be beneficial to restore the item.

I believe this is a water pitcher.
