Here is a delightful original antique Victorian necesaire/etui in the form of a miniature TRAVEL TRUNK CASE ...or some might say a Dr\'s GLADSTONE BAG type. .
Made of leather, the case has 2 outer pockets with fasteners. Pinch the clasp ends together to open, and inside is burgundy coloured silk, and there is a central piece (this lifts out if you want) which holds a number of sewing tools including scissors, fine crochet hooks, bodkins, needle case etc. most are made from facetted steel. On the other side is a gilt thimble and gilt topped glass scent bottles.
The metal inside is gilt brass, ensuring a good sturdy item.
A wonderful original Victorian necessaire, not to be missed.
It measures approx 5 inches x 3 inches x 4 inches in height not including the handle.
It weighs approx 433.5 grams.
In good condition, there is surface wear to the exterior leather, which you can make better by polishing if you wish. There is one little sewing tool missing... the tip of the inside of the faux tortoiseshell item is missing.
The only other thing to mention is one outer pocket does not fasten as well as the other side.it just needs abit of movement from both hands and then it fits fine.. its only because the leather is not as well used I think..it is nothing to worry about..but if I didnt mention it someone would know doubt pull me up on it.
