I\'ve seen a number of these neat old sad irons online, but haven\'t seen one with the cryptic lettering on the handle plate! The top is cast iron, the bottom is sheet steel. Both should polish up nicely. The wooden handle is original and very sturdy, but does have some wear on both ends. It\'s hard to decipher the lettering on the various parts that are partially covered, but here\'s what I\'ve been able to read:
Left side: “I.M.E. PAT. ??? .07, S. OTHER PATS. PENDING.”Right side: “CENTRAL FLATIRON MFG. CO., BINGHAMTON N.Y.”Plate attached to handle: Looks like “OPEN, BLOW TMRO, IRON FROM, FRONT, LIGHT, CLOSE.”
The pipe to the gas source is loose, the screw to hold it in place is still there but isn\'t engaged. front clip is missing and has been replaced with a hex-head screw. I\'m selling \"as is\" but I believe it wouldn\'t take much to clean it up, it would make an interesting addition to anyone\'s collection.
