Please be patient there are 21 photos to be loaded in this sale.This sale is for an ornate antique Victorian 19th Century German cast iron fox head inkwell. From the late 19th century, this inkwell features a hinged fox head lid that has yellow glass eyes on top of an embossed reticulated base featuring acorns, leaves, a haversack and long guns. On the base it is marked, \"E G Zimmermann Hanau.\" This is an excellent casting with great detail visible all over on the lid and the base. The fox head is realistically modeled with a well delineated open mouth and teeth. It does have some condition issues; one of the cast tabs for the hinge is broken, and there is no longer a pin in place to hold the upper and lower portions together. In addition, one leaf is missing, on the left side. There is not an ink cup to set into the inkwell, and you can see some oxidation inside the hollow area. Still, it looks great, a very nicely done piece and quite desirable. We couldn\'t find another one like this one, so you\'ll want to keep an eye on this antique and unusual piece.
