This is a beautiful antique natural Shell Cameo in the classical style depicting a Bacchante (a follower of Bacchus the God of Wine) set in a fine 9ct Gold Brooch mount, with an engravedscallopededge(please see the detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of the item\'s description).
The Cameo is finely carved and depicts a Bacchante with vine leaves & grapes in her hair.

The carving is crisp and clean and her lovely face is well evidenced as are the wine leaves and the grapes; this subject was a very popular one with Victorians.

This fine quality antique Cameo Brooch is stamped \'9ct\' on the reverse confirming that it is made from solid 9ct Gold i.e it is not gold plated and it is also stamped with the maker\'s mark \'WHWLd\'.
As can be seen in the photographs overall the Brooch is in great condition, with only wear commensurate with age; there isa natural internal shell line just visible, nothing really but mentioning more for accuracy.The pin is undoubtedly a historic replacement (pins were susceptible to breaking or bending), but otherwise the brooch appears to be in fine originalcondition.
