An antique English lady\'s high collar.Difficult to date precisely, but probably made around the year 1900.This type of collar was popular around 1890-1910 (late Victorian and Edwardian eras).It would probably have been worn by a professional woman, such as a housekeeper, governess, matron or private nurse.This is a deep collar - 2 inches deep.The inner part - the part which you clip to your blouse with studs - is plain, like an ordinary man\'s starched collar.The outer part - the part which folds down - is very lacy and fancy.It appears to be \"broderie anglaise\" - a machine-made lace, made to look like traditional drawn-thread work.
The inside is stamped with the size (13 1/2) and the code 805 (presumably a stock or catalogue number?).
If you are buying this collar for everyday use rather than just for display, please bear in mind that it is very old, and will need to be handled extremely carefully.Note: you will need a pair of collar studs to attach this item (the stud shown in the picture is just for display and is NOT supplied with this item).

ConditionVery good condition.The cloth is in very good condition, with no damage except for a tiny area of wear along the lower edge (about 1/4 of an inch long), as shown in the photographs.The collar is dusty from storage, with a few small stains, as shown. and will need to be washed and starched before use.Please see here for more collars (and collar studs)
