Antique Victorian Schnapps Liquor Set

Description:

This decanter with two matching cups are free blown. Each piece is blown of jewel toned, ruby glass with a incised, Crackle decor pattern and there is silver or evenplatinum foil inclusions on the exterior surface. Each piece is beautiful cut and polished on the base. Applied handles are colourless glass with a \"spiral\" decor pattern and at the end of each handle, it is grounded. The faceted cut stopper is also polished with perfection. The stopper is etched with the number 14 on the bottom.

To say who is the maker? There is three claims of origin for this type of glass.

The first is North American glass company, Boston Sandwich during the late 19thC.

Second claim is British glass house, Vasa Murrhina Glass Company; also known as Aurora Glass Company. Paul Raoul de Facheux D\'Humy was the managing director of the Aurora Glass Works. He traded in London under both companies. The first record of D\'Humy in England occurs on 31 October 1876, when he took out patent number 4217 for ornamenting glass with gold leaf or other metal. D\'Humy specialized in glass decoration using gold or platinum.

Third origin, for the schnapps set could be from a Bohemian glass house such as Loetz or other, as there is examples of Bohemian glass with foil inclusions and incised Crackle decor patterns during the end of the 19thC.

Of all threepossibilities, all three produced opulent glass. Art glass with inclusions of any precious metal such as gold, silver or platinum is highly regarded and this set has all the bells and whistles.

Overall, near mint condition.

The decanter has no visible chips on the rim, no hairline breaks or stains. .

For accuracy, the end of the handle on the decanter has a few nibbles with roughness to the touch, and the handle at the top portion has a heat check.

Liquor decanter with stopper is 7-1/2\" tall. The rim is 1-1/8\" diameter and the flat base is 4-1/2\" diameter.

No two cups are exactly blown alike. Both have a four sided shape and are a perfect shotglass size.Each cup is around 1-3/8\" tall with a 1-3/8\" diameter rim, and the base is 1-1/4\" diameter.
