Rare & Superb Quality Scottish Solid Silver Teapot c1838

Made by Elder & CoEdinburgh; with Armorial Crest

This particularly fine antique early Victorian Scottish Silver Teapot has a circular compressed form onto a circular spreading base with four scrolled feet(please seethe detailed close-up photographs provided, which form an integral part of theitem\'s description).

The body of the Teapot is typical of Scottish Silver of the period and is quite plain save for an engraved family motto for the Veach Family: \'Famam Extendimus Factis\' (which translated means: \'We exceed our reputation by deeds\') above their family crest a \'Bulls Head\'. This family were a powerful force inScotland’s history and were first recorded in Berwickshire around the year 1200.

This superb antique Teapot is fitted with a hinged hallmarked domed cover which retains the original leaf and flower shaped finial. The area immediately surrounding the cover is embellished with six flower buds and leaf chased decorated motifs.

The Teapot is fitted with a particularly impressive \'C scroll\' handle with volute scroll decorated terminals and an applied acanthus leaf decorated thumb piece. The swan necked spout is further ornamented with noteworthy scrolling fluted decoration, and a decorated terminal. The spout has a scalloped shaped socket further embellished with chased decoration of the highest quality.

This antique Scottish Teapot is the very finest quality and is made of a very good gauge of Silver (reflected in the weight of this piece); it is clearly the result of top quality craftsmanship byScotland’s most skilled Silversmiths of the period. It is in excellent condition with the chased decoration remaining very sharp (please see photographs), it has only one very minor ding to one side that is so small the camera cannot capture it, but I am mentioning it for complete accuracy.

In summary, and this is a rare piece of Scottish Silver of the highest quality imaginable; a genuinely beautiful piece that would have befitted a high ranking wealthy and powerful Scottish family.

As expected full hallmarks are struck to the underside of the Teapot and are clear (please see photograph) and the part hallmarks, which are struck to the interior of the lid remain very clear. Unusually although assayed in 1838, which waswithinthe reign of Queen Victoria it is stamped with the head of William IV.

Please note - reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this item, which is truly stunning.
