This is a beautiful antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish Iona marble ivy leaf brooch. The use of Iona marble is perfect for these brooches as the variegated colours of the marble fit perfectly with the natural variation in Ivy leaf colours!
I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The lovely stones are quality green and white marbles from the Isle of Iona on the west coast of Scotland. The marble used to be mined in the 1950\'s, but has since closed making this a desirable and rare stone.The brooch has a nice sterling silver frame which is not hallmarked and this is fairly normal for pieces from this period, but has been fully tested however and is sterling silver. The length is 4.5 and the steel pin and C clasp are original and in good working condition.
