This is a beautiful antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish granite and Cairngorm citrine brooch.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The lovely stones are pink granites from Kemney in Aberdeenshire and grey granite from Aberdeen.The top stone is a lovely facetted citrine from the Cairngorm mountain range that has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is a genuine citrine. The two facetted orange finial stones are paste citrines made to simulate real citrines from the Cairngorm mountain range.
The brooch has no hallmarks ( has silver stamp ) which is fairly normal for pieces of this period, but has been fully tested by a local jeweller and is sterling silver.The brooch length is 5.0 cm ( two inches ) and the pin and C clasp are original and in good working condition.
