The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the \"Gatsby\" or \"Roaring Twenties\" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1935. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
English Gold and Silver hallmarking is some of the most advanced hallmarking in the world. For hundreds of years the English have used a system of hallmarking for Precious Metal Items. The Hallmarks usually include a symbol for a hallmarking office, Exp: Birmingham, a lowercase or capital letter that corresponds to a specific year in the hallmarking catalog, a parts per thousand purity number, or your typical 9k, 14, 15, 18, numbers for purity of gold.
Chasing is a metalworking technique that uses a nail-like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns onto a metal surface. This process creates a design that is sunk into the front of the surface using indentations, grooves, and channeling. Chasing is thousands of years old and was very difficult and time-consuming technique that is still used by metalsmiths today.
Australian Opal was first discovered in the 1890s. Most opals at the time featured only 2-3 colors at most and were very opaque in hue. However, Australian Opals have a beautiful play of color that includes red, white, blue, green, and orange. This made it immediately coveted by the richest of the rich! In some cultures, opal symbolizes love and passion.
Sapphires are one of the four precious gemstones, and have been prized for their rarity and beauty for centuries. Sapphires are one of the two varieties of corundum, the other being ruby. Sapphires are usually a deep blue in color, but can also occur in other “fancy” colors of white, yellow, grey, green, and orange hues. The only color a sapphire cannot be is red. The Ancient Persians believed that the sky was painted blue by the reflection of the sun on sapphire stones, and many rulers and religions have used this stone to denote status and sanctity. All packages are sent via USPS First Class Insured Mail unless another shipping option is chosen by the buyer.
