Here is a beautiful rare antique example of a Native American basket in a light colored grass weave with 3 whirling log symbols in a contrasting color. We believe this is Dine\' or Navajo made. The original meaning of this symbol in Sanskrit was \"well-being\" and was associated with order and stability. This symbol was no longer used by the Navajo after 1940 due to it\'s negative adoption by the German Socialist Party.This basket is in good condition for its age with some unraveling on the top undulating trim, otherwise the body of the basket has a tight weave with a soft mellow patina (see photos).
