Rare Antique \"BABS\" Non-Mechanical Walking DollMade of wood and has a wire cage torso and the arms and legs are hinged wood and the legs have spring attachments; the head is compositionThe wig hair looks and feels like human hair and is quite long; it is glued onThis is a large doll at approx. 27\"-28\" tall and I suspect she\'s an early prototype doll as she has crudely penciled markings on the wood parts at the bottomSome of the markings I can\'t make out but what I can reads: 1874 Patent Pending and then New Patents Pending and then Patents...(something)..in Other SampleAlso \"BABS\"has been branded/burn-stamped into the wood on her underside; internet research has told me that these \"BABS\" dolls were produced by the Babs Manufacturing Corporation, which was a Philadelphia doll manufacturer, between 1917 and 1921 and were patented and described as \"non-mechanical walker dolls\"; I think it\'s possible this one may be an early prototype of the BABS doll, but I can\'t say for sure and make no guaranteesAll of the wood pieces look pretty good, given the age; the head has some cracks--the largest is at the back of the neck, there are smaller cracks where the shoulder plate is bolted on, and her head and hands paint is peeling but she still has a great facial expression; the cage torso is in good shape and her hair is still abundant; the legs & feet look good; the spring attachments are fine, the nails look secure and the limbs hinge okayI am no expert and I don\'t know the age of this doll--I can only go with the dates I found with the internet research; I don\'t know if her wood parts are older than the head or not, as I don\'t know what the markings are indicating for sure...please see all photosDefinitely a very rare doll at any rate and she would be rarer still if she is a \"sample\" doll; a must-have for serious doll collectors who prefer unique antique and harder-to-find dolls--Please view all photos for best description as to condition and appearance--this doll is pre-owned, pre-loved, and sold \"as is\", all sales finalShe will ship carefully wrapped, fully insuredPlease don\'t be shy about making an offer on this unusual doll--all reasonable offers will be considered and thank you so much for viewing!Note: My shop is smoke free but pet-friendly, so if you are allergic please be aware---I have lots of fun vintage items listed and I am always happy to combine shipping--please wait for me to send you an adjusted invoice before you pay in order to get the shipping savings--if you pay before I send an invoice then and Paypal will charge me the fees on the higher amount and it will be too late for combined savings--thanks so much!
