This is a pair of Wade & Butcher \"Celebrated Fine India Steel Set\" straight razors in a red leather case. The razors have etched blades and natural bone (?) scales. One of the razors has scales that are carved or pressed in a fan design on both sides, and there\'s a narrow, un-engraved metal plate on one side. The other razor probably matched at one time, but it appears to have been repinned with bovine bone scales. The blades are both marked, \"Celebrated Fine India Steel Set Ready For Use.\" The tangs are marked, \"Manufactured by Wade & Butcher, Sheffield.\" Razors stamped simply, \"Sheffield\" were usually made before an 1891 trade embargo requiring products to be marked with country of origin. The razors have unusually sharp gimping on top and bottom between blade and tail.The case is red with a green velvet lining, and it has a label on the back, \" From Robert Link, Hair Dresser, 616 Atlantic Avenue, Boston, Hathaway Building Next To South Union Station.\" The case measures approximately 6.75\" x 2.25\". The leather on the outside of the case and the lining have minor wear, and the hinges and clasp work fine. The razor with fancier scales has a 13/16 inch wide (.80\" - .86\") blade that shows minor evidence of hone wear. The blade is free of cracks, and there are no nicks in the cutting edge. The blade has a 2 3/4 inch cutting edge and seems to be the original full length. The blade is mostly free of surface rust and pitting. There\'s a dark irridescent area of pitting? on one side of the blade. The scales aren\'t warped and they aren\'t cracked, but there is a chip in the scales near the toe (see pictures). The blade fits snugly between the scales. The blade on the razor with plainer scales is also 13/16 inch wide (.78\" - .85\"). It shows minor evidence of hone wear and it\'s free of cracks and nicks. The blade has a 2 3/4 inch cutting edge and seems to be the original full length. The blade is mostly free of surface rust and pitting. The scales aren\'t warped, but there is a stable crack near the toe (see pictures). The blade fits snugly between the scales. Insurance is required on all shipments and will be chargedwith a handling fee and included in the shipping quote.
