Description

This is a French 19th century religious piece a special style made under Napoleon III until around 1870. The centerpiece is a rendition of the virgin with a lamb encased in a curved glass case (sous verre bombe). This is made from carved limestone, which is covered with glass and then embedded in a wooden frame. The piece seems to be in fine condition.

The carving is about 3 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches. The oval wooden frame is about 5 1/2 inches tall and about 4 3/4 inches wide. (F2297)

This reliquary was made around 1870 and is almost 150 years old.

You will not find many pieces like this on sale.
