This is a very interesting antique Victorian glass bottle complete with its original pottery stopper...... its a 3 piece mold with an applied top, which is for an internal screw stopper.
Dark olive green colour glass with a number on the base 1323.
Look at the INTERNAL SCREW TOP threads inside.. note the top of the bottle inside is much thinner and more delicate than other internal screw thread bottles of this period.
You will see this bottle has a really good embossed design.
FOSTER\'S
PATENT
AWARDED
THE GOLD MEDAL
AT THE
INTERNATIONAL
HEALTH EXHIBITION
LONDON 1884
With a picture of the front and back of the GOLD MEDAL as well in the design centre.
Look at my photographs to see the 3 piece mould line marks.
This embossing has been put on the full length mould side... from the base to the neck.... the other bottle I have just listed #F1 has the 2 word embossing on the short mold side.

The bottle is 7 and half inch tall x 2 and 5/8ths inch dia.

It does have slight scuffs and rubs but in good collectable condition ....its slightly mucky inside and could do with a clean.
Good embossing which can be read easy.

The stopper is made from STONEWARE and its a SQUARE top with slight knobbles on the edges to make it easier to unscrew with your fingers.... it is marked with FOSTERS PATENT LONDON. N ...it has a large rubber washer near the top to seal the bottle and the PATENT part I would imagine has to do with the unusual PEWTER wire loop it has going thru 4 holes in the bottom.. I have only seen 3 of these actual stoneware stoppers and all were STUCK in broken bottle necks apart from this one which I had a real problem getting out of the neck... I thought I was going to either rip my finger ends off or break the actual bottle neck......it was TIGHT .... tighter than my mate Dan !!! and he is tight !!

I had a great problem unscrewing the stopper from the neck.. the pewter wire with age has swollen and grabbed a hold of the internal threads.. the top of the glass bottle threads is thin and I can see this being a problem with this stopper type.
The stopper is made from stoneware ... glazed.... the pewter you will see is starting to decay as well....the rubber is good.
This bottle was found in a CELLAR and it has not been dug ..but as stated the bottle has slight scuffs and rubs....also note.. the close up photographs of the neck show lines.. these are manufacturing lines of the neck and are NOT cracks.
It has 2 fine edge chips off the back at the base..

For those interested .....There were 4 broken examples of this particular bottle pictorial embossed bottle my number #F2 and my number #F1 ..the plainer examples which simply say FOSTERS PATENT .. there were 22 of those broken....... they had their necks off and 3 with their stoneware stoppers were in situ ..but in a terrible state when out of the neck.. the damp had destroyed the pewter wires which had swollen in the necks and they had broken when folks had tried to get them out over the years.
I had never seen or heard of this PATENT before I took a look in this cellar.

Google FOSTERS PATENT and you will find a few......
I wonder HOW MANY of these Foster Patent bottles were manufactured for different companies and how long was it before they were obsolete....? you do NOT see that many of them around.

A good bottle for your PATENT collection.

I will leave the stopper SLACK in the neck.
