Absolutely charming - and rare - bookends depicting a little girl making her difficult way through a very large book opened across her lap.
Electro-formed (more commonly known as bronze-clad), a manufacturing technique whereby a skin of bronze was made to adhere to a plaster form through the chemical process of electro-plating. A handful of companies used this method in the early 1900\'s to make decorative household objects that had the look, feel and heft of solid bronze pieces yet still were affordable by the middle class.
One of those companies was Armor Bronze of NYC, their customary shield logo incised on the backs as well as original labels still affixed to the bottoms. Circa 1920\'s.
Condition is excellent, no breaks in the cladding, no mashed components to the figures, no mashed corners on the bases, nothing dented in, broken off or glued back on. Paint is original and mostly still intact, just areas of wear to be expected with this age and use. Felts on the bottoms very well may be original. Both pieces still flat and stable.
6 1/4 inches tall, to the top of her top-knot; 5 3/4 inches wide; 5 inches deep. And heavy at 3 pounds EACH PIECE.
US shipping only. USPS retail ground. I pack with care and do not profit from S&H.
