An extremely interesting mid 19th century hand worked bed quilt
Shown on a double bed, the top fabric is a print fabric, designed to look like a traditional patchwork quilt,
in a vibrant turkey red and white
Three lengths have been machine stitched to form the quilt top
Originating from the North of England, the reverse of the quilt is a typical strippy quilt of ditsy florals with a central pink speckled band
Weighted with natural cotton wadding, all held in place with the hand stitched diamond motif worked over the whole body of the quilt, I note the neatly turned edges of the red and white fabric which are also hand stitched
As you might expect, given the mid 1800s age, there are evident little creases in the fabric which have picked up the print unevenly which for me add to it\'s charm
On the reverse there are a couple of marks and added patch repairs
Measuring 76 x 92\" (193 x 234cm)
The little printed diamonds are 1 1/8th\" square (2.8cm)
I have not washed the quilt and whilst the red and white is bright and appears clean, the reverse is age tanned
