For sale: A small antique tin tole ware document box with a domed lid. It measures 4.2\" across x 3.2\" front to back x 2.8\" high. There is no damage- no missing parts, no dents, but it is in rough, rustic, primitive condition, consistent with it\'s age. It dates to approx. c. 1840\'s. It has been in my husbands family for many generations. It was not made by them or for them, but was acquired by someone in the family for use as a small cash & receipt case when they operated a small mercantile type shop in the very late 1800\'s. It is made of tin & has a stenciled tole pattern on the front & sides. It does not look like it was decorated any other place on the box. Much of the original paint remains on the front & right side, while there is very little left on the left side. The front has a deep green leaf over deep mustard, while the sides have a mustard shade in a festoon style pattern. The top is slightly domed, with a round bail type of handle. It has a 2 part hasp for closure, with the top part of the hasp on the edge of the lid. It is complete, & functions smoothly, easily moving up & down. the lower portion is in the top center of the bottom of the box- it, too, is secure & complete. It can be locked with a small padlock-( not included). There is a small amount of rust inside the domed lid- very little. Thereare a lot of rusty areas inside the bottom, but nothing that will be falling apart. I can apply quite a bit of pressure, with nothing falling apart. The two hinged areas joining the top & bottom are in good repair, with no issues. The corners that are ( I think ) soldered, have some crusty spots, but are secure. The only real issue is an area at the top left part of the lid, where there is a separation that is about 0.5\" long. It is easily seen in the photo\'s. This is a great, rustic, primitive piece that is about 150 - 170 + years old. It is actually in very good condition for it\'s age. There is a surprising amount of paint still on it, & it just has a super primitive look. We think it looks great as is, but if you want it to look a little better, we would suggest having a professional clean it up, & perhaps repair the small crack ( not really a crack- but more of a loss ofsolder ) on the domed lid. We are happy to combine shipping whenever possible ( which it is in most cases,), but you must notify us first. You may shop & offer as long as you like, but you must be willing to wait for your purchases, as we cannot combine shipping unless items are actually shipped together. Shipping- This has become a problem for us in the past few years- we have lost a lot of money on shipping, so we now charge the highest possible rate. To that end, we never seek to earn extra through shipping- we WILL always refund any shipping overcharge, & we ALWAYS print the label showing the charge, so you will know for sure. We do accept returns for any reason within 14 days, but please message us first. Unless we have made a GROSS error inour listing, we will not refund original shipping, or pay return shipping charges. Once we have received the returned item in the same condition it was sent in, we will fully refund you. Items mailed priority will be insured; if you want any other item insured, please let us know. If you receive an item/ lot damaged, please notify us right away, & try to take as many photo\'s as possible, showing packaging & damage, as they may be required for insurance purposes. We are preparing to downsize, & are selling many items that we have collected over the years, as well as many duplicate gift items; also many items come from sales & estate sales. We have a smoke ( & now, sadly, pet free) home, but items from other sources we cannot guarantee what they may have been exposed to. Anything really stinky we do not sell. We had a fire incident at the end of last year & many hundreds of our items/ lots were exposed to smoke. We have aired them out, & used other methods to eliminate any lingering smoke odors, but these items/ lots will come with a disclosure & a reduced rate.
