Antique-Vintage Folk Art Cane/Walking Stick-Cudgel-Burl Knot Handle-Unique Shaft:

This is a Walking Stick/Cane that would be considered a cudgel,knobkerrie or something of that nature.The handle appears to be a burl from the root of a tree and has great character,nice patina and a great look.I am not sure of the type of wood used,but it has taken on a a great appearance with the contrast of the 2 different colors of the wood..The shaft has a great natural sheen and color from being around quite some time.

The cane is 34\" tall,2 1/4\" across the top of the handle,and does not have a ferrule and never had one, there is some minor dings and bumps in the shaft and the handle,does not detract.Nice old cane.With the contrasting of the colors of the wood,it is a nice looking cane.

Many folks ask me if antique canes are OK to use.I do not believe that a antique cane should be used for support.When these were made it was more as a fashion statement and not a means of support.Everybody carried a cane in the days of old.Today,we have a obesity problem in this country,that was not the case back in the days of canes and walking sticks.They were treated as a rule the same way a Gucci bag is today..as a statement as to fashion.Please do not use a antique cane for a means of support.It may break.As a rule a Tiffany vase of old is not used for flowers today,but put in a case and admired for the artwork that it is.The antique cane should be treated in the same manner.
