This was an Estate Sale find. I am unsure of the era, but the owner was in the service in the 50\'s. It has a cloth and leather web in the liner. One of the strap bails is missing. The liner has a stamp with the Liner fpor Stainless steel Helmet and the number 3 on it. The back of this helmet has a white stripe painted in a vertical fashion. This means the helmet wasissued to an individual that was in a position of leadership. The idea was that during an assault,such as an amphibious invasion, the leader would jump out and head towards the objective. The soldiersbehind him would be able to recognize who he was by the stripe and would follow him.This is why the stripe is known as a \"leadership stripe\". This is sold as is as a collectable.
